How many levels are in Escape the Backrooms? There are 33 levels documented here — 27 on the main route you play in order, plus 6 secret or hidden ones. The list below is the full set; the developer adds more with each update.
- LVL 0The Lobby
Where everyone starts. Endless yellow office, soggy carpet, fluorescent lights that won't stop buzzing. Nothing hunts you hard here yet, but the Bacteria drifts the halls and your sanity quietly drains the longer you wander.
bacteria - LVL 1The Habitable Zone
The first real level. A huge warehouse and parking sprawl where sanity starts draining for real and the Skin-Stealer turns up, copying other survivors to get close. The way out is a color-locked elevator.
code: variableskin stealersmiler - LVL HubThe Hub
A giant underground highway tunnel that runs out of sight in both directions, lined with numbered doors that each open onto a different level, plus an abandoned M.E.G. base off to one side. It's the crossroads the route keeps coming back to.
itheardyou - LVL 2Pipe Dreams
A cramped, sweltering maze of concrete tunnels and fat industrial pipes. Sound carries down here, and partway through a Smiler kicks off a scripted chase that doesn't let up until you're out.
smiler - LVL 3Electrical Station
A dim power substation split into zones, prowled by Hounds and laced with electrified puddles that kill on contact. There's no keypad here, despite what some guides claim. The whole level is the puzzle.
hound - LVL 4Abandoned Office
Cubicle floors and meeting rooms left mid-shift. One of the calmer stretches, but two Window entities watch the hall to the puzzle room, and cameras will rat you out if you get sloppy. There's no fixed code, only a counting puzzle.
code: variablewindowsskin stealer - LVL 5Terror Hotel
A rotting multi-floor hotel of lobbies, guest rooms, a mailroom and a boiler room. Deathmoths infest it, a Skin-Stealer and a Hound stalk it, and the room you need is locked with a code the game rerolls every run.
code: variabledeathmothskin stealerhound - LVL FunLevel Fun =)
A party room gone wrong. Streamers, confetti, primary colors everywhere, and Partygoers packed in among all of it. One of the levels nobody forgets.
partygoersmiler - LVL 37The Poolrooms
The famous Poolrooms. Bright white and tan tiles, shallow turquoise water, sunlight from nowhere. After the funhouse it feels like a held breath, and it fully restores your sanity. The catch is which rooms you're allowed to walk into.
- LVL !Run For Your Life!
A long red-lit hospital corridor with sirens blaring and a Smiler plus a pack of six Partygoers on your heels from the first second. It's billed as the most dangerous level for the simple reason that it never stops chasing you.
smilerpartygoer - LVL EndThe End
A trap dressed up as freedom. A modern, almost silent library with THE END spelled out across the middle, presumed to be a web spun by the thing that lives in it. The lights go out on a timer, and that's when the Scratcher moves.
scratcher - LVL 94Motion
A grainy, hand-drawn-looking town of grass hills under a floating castle, everything washed in film grain. Safe by day, deadly at night, and capped by a boss fight in the sky. There's no password here, whatever the old guides say.
animated king - LVL 6Lights Out
A pitch-black maze where you can't see your own hands. The game hands you a LiDAR scanner that paints dots of light on whatever it hits, and that's the only way through. A blind Wretch patrols the first half.
wretch - LVL 7Thalassophobia
An endless black ocean dotted with houses, and the game's first real water level. You start in a flooded home and travel boat to boat while something circles below, waiting for the fog.
thing level 7 - LVL 8Cave System
Dark natural caves and flooded tunnels, a break from all the man-made floors but no safer for it. Female Deathmoths nest by the mushrooms and a pair of Skin-Stealers hunt with flashlights of their own. There's no code, only nerve.
deathmothskin stealer - LVL 0.11Level 0.11
Level 0 if it had been left to rot for decades. An arrow-marked maze opens into a hall of pillars and boarded-up doors, with the Bacteria drifting through it all.
bacteria - LVL 188Level 188
The striking 'beautiful Backrooms' level: a grey hotel modeled on the real Heathrow Holiday Inn, wrapped around a courtyard of 114 windows. It's also one of the only levels in the game with a fixed numeric code, which makes it a favorite to look up.
415314aranea membriwindowsskin stealer - LVL 9Darkened Suburbs
A dark residential neighborhood at night, with a big fenced house (an old M.E.G. outpost) at the top of the map. Wretches guard the doors and The Eye drifts the streets. No keypad, just a power run.
wretchthe eye - LVL 10The Bumper Crop
An endless foggy field of tall wheat dotted with red-fan windmills, with Facelings working and wandering the rows. The crops hide both your cover and the things moving through them.
faceling - LVL 3999The True Ending
An infinite retro arcade with an elevator and a big M.E.G. machine at its heart. This is the end-game stretch and the route to the true ending, so its code is one of the most searched in the whole game.
931 - LVL 0.2Level 0.2
A M.E.G. civilization area built like a layered parking structure, where you no-clip down through the floors. Smilers, a Bone Thief and a lone Skin-Stealer share it with you, and a stoplight warns how dangerous each drop is.
bone thiefsmilerskin stealer - LVL SnackThe Snackrooms
A quiet snack-bar stretch of vending machines and counters. No entities reported, just a typewriter puzzle standing between you and the door.
code: variable - LVL !~!Hotel Chase
A red-lit hotel of carpeted hallways and hanging exit signs, with blue corridors that act as safe zones. The Clump and a Smiler give chase once you trip the trigger.
clumpsmiler - LVL 37.2Dark Poolrooms
The Poolrooms drowned and switched off. You cross dark, flooded tile sections by Floatie Boat, alternating with lit expanded areas, while the Clump hunts and the water itself is toxic.
clump - LVL Fun+Level Fun+
A bigger, meaner Level Fun split into four themed sectors (Party, Playhouse, Arcade and Funhouse) spoking off a central ballpit room. Party Hosts watch the ceilings, ready to scream and bring the Partygoers down on you.
party hostpartygoer - LVL 52Level 52
A place built like a school, starting in a classroom of pillars and cluttered desks that opens into long hallways. A friendly Partypooper will walk you out, if you follow his lead.
partypooperpartygoer - LVL 55.1Level 55.1
The last level of the main route, layered like Level 0.2 stacked on Level 0.3 and crossed by an elevator you drive with a lever. Finishing it plays out the Wrong Door, the first of the game's five endings.
bacteriasmilerskin stealer - LVL BunkerThe Bunkersecret
The small, completely safe M.E.G. bunker you wake up in after every ending except the true one. A couple of rooms with bunk beds and a base area whose glass cases hold pinboards of level layouts.
- LVL OverOvergrowthsecret
A rotted-out version of Level 0, moldy carpet, missing ceiling tiles, and air so thick with bacteria that your breathing meter drains the whole time you're inside. It's the first leg of the route to the Empty City ending, reached from The Bunker through the ID-card door, and the one alternate-ending level where the clock is really working against you.
bacteriabone thief - LVL GrassThe Grassroomssecret
A vast indoor concrete complex with a floor of real grass and wildflowers and big windows onto a city outside. There are no entities here at all, the threat is the level itself. The note at the entrance gives the one rule that matters: don't stay still.
- LVL 974Level 974secret
A dilapidated two-story pink house you reach from Level 6 with the ID Card. Its resident, Mr. Kitty, stalks the halls, and the whole house is the route to the Pink House ending, a slow, tense collect-a-thon built around never taking your eyes off him for long.
mr kitty - LVL ∞Level 9223372036854775807secret
An endless dark spiral staircase, named for the largest 64-bit integer, with openings that look out onto a white void. Reached from Level 1's upper floor with the ID Card. It's completely safe; the only way to lose is to jump too early.
- LVL ?!Level You Cheatedsecret
A tiny easter-egg room hidden off Level 188, and despite the name you reach it through normal play, not by cheating. Tan walls, one ceiling light, and a door at the top that knocks now and then. Nothing in it, nothing to do.
